I am getting a Nikon d90 and have the option of a 2 different packages that have different lenses?

Tuesday Feb 17, 2009

Which package would be better?

One has 2 lenses. The first lens is a Nikkor 18-55 VR lens, the second is a 55-200vr lens.

The second package just has a Nikkor AFS 18-105mm lens vr zoom, but it also has a free case and a tripod.

They are both around the same price. Which one do you suggest?

Hel.lo,

I would go with the first kit since the 2 lenses will cover a wide variety of shooting situations. You can always buy a case that suits your needs, they start at 20 dollars and go up from there. Also, how much will you use a tripod? The pods that come with these kits usually are not that great and tend to be bulky. Again, you can go to the store and buy a comparable tripod for 20-50 dollars.

well, i think the second package sounds good. tho, the big decision you have to make is, how much zoom do you need? depending again on the typ of photography you’re into.

I’m going to second monorails vote for the first one. It will give you far more versatility, and Nikon glass when you get it in a kit is usually a great deal. You get it far far cheaper there than you can get it or later. As to the case and tripod You can get cases all over the place and once you decide how you want to carry it you can decide on the case. I like lowpro cases they are well made and there are a great number of styles to choose from. But there are also many other good case makers. You may end up wanting a messenger bag style or backpack. As to the tripod NEVER trust a thousand dollars worth of camera to a 20 dollar tripod. Look for a good one I have manfroto and gitzo. Manfroto makes some affordable options. I have friends that like Sli ck, Giotto and Induro and thes are also nice tripods but see how you shoot first. If you to action shots mostly a monopod may suit you better than a triipod. If you do macro you want a center column that can go horizontal and so on

I hope this helps
