Nikon d90 can't take pictures. Help!?

Sunday May 24, 2009

I have a Nikon d90 with the standard Nikon DX 18-105 mm G lens and sometimes I can't take pictures in auto mode. It flashes F– what is wrong?

Look towards the rear of your manual for the troubleshooting section. There is a table of error messages. Blinking F– is a lens problem. Be sure your lens is properly mounted. See the manual for lens attachment and removal.

The problem is the camera can not achieve focus. You are probably to close to your subject. All lenses have a minimum focusing distance. Look in your manual to find out what it is for the 18-105mm.

The next time this happens take a step backwards and see if this solves the problem. Remember that unlike a point and shoot camera the lens on your camera is not a macro. You can't use it to take real closeup pictures. If that is what you want you will need to buy a macro lens.
