Will my Nikon F65 lenses mount on a Nikon digital SLR body?

Saturday Nov 28, 2009

Thinking about making the upgrade from manual SLR (Nikon F65, much loved) to a digital SLR (considering the Nikon D90). My question is, will my lenses that mount on my F65 be usable on a D90 (or if not, any other digital SLR)?
Just found out this camera is known as a N65 in the USA. Same thing, different name.

Actually, your N65 (F65) is an automatic focus film camera, not a manual SLR. I actually had a digital SLR based on the older N60 film camera, so I know a bit about the N65 as well as the D90.

If you have lenses that mount and meter on the N65, they will in fact mount and meter on the D90. If they autofocus on the N65, they will autofocus on the D90.

You can also use those lenses on the older Nikon D80 (the D90 is better), as well as the Nikon D300, D700, D2-series, D3 and D3x, and the discontinued Nikon D50, D70, D70s, D200, and D100. They will mount, meter, and if they are AF lenses, will autofocus.

The lenses should mount and meter on the D40, D40x, and D60, but may not autofocus unless they are AF-S or Sigma HSM lenses with the built-in motor.

If for some reason you have very old AI lenses, which have the F-mount, they will mount and manually focus, but will only properly meter on the D3, D3x, D2-series, D200, D700 and D300, as those cameras have settings for AI lenses.
