Canon Rebel XSi or Nikon D90?

Wednesday Sep 17, 2008

I am a beginner in digital SLR’s and am going from my Kodak P850 point and shoot to my first slr. I have money saved up, enough to get the Nikon D90 kit, but what I’m wondering is whether or not I am making the right decision. I was originally sold on the XSi until the Nikon came out with the D90. I am mainly photographing my family, hiking, etc., but I seem to use my current digital camera quite a bit to take short videos of my kidlette. Do you think that it is worth it to spend the extra money on the D90? I am really into photography and want to expand my skills, and I would like to have something that I would be able to use the lenses with other, more complex slr bodies in the future. Any help anyone can give would be great!

Canon Rebel Xsi is a good value and therre ae plenty of lenses for it.

But don’t buy it at any of these rip-off scam sites that are owned by George Sabato:

The Nikon D90 is better, you have a top status LCD screen, an all- metal ( Magnesium Alloy Body ), and a far superior Grip. The D90 is a mid-range Professional SLR, whereby the XSI is just a starter SLR- they are in different categories. I’d spring for the D90 Kit. You get more features, most notably Video recording ( in HD ), which would be perfect for your small videos. Yes, the D90 is worth the difference of the XSI.

That’s a side by side. You’ll also notice that the Rebel XSI doesn’t go up That high in terms of ISO it goes to an amateur 1,600, and doesn’t even boost to 3,200. The d90 can go to 6,400- and Not that bad at those levels. The Nikon D90 also has a larger sensor, which makes is better in Low light!

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on…….

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck
