Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II Lens

I have these 3 lenses, now i am planning to buy an extension tube

i.e. KENKO Automatic Extension Tube Set DG AF Macro – Nikon

will this tube will be allright for my DSLR?

While the Kenko rings do have electrical contacts that do give you autofocus, extension rings to reduce the amount of light that gets to the sensor. Beyond a certain point you will lose autofocus because you don’t have enough light for the AF system to work. A lot of cameras don’t autofocus if you have less light than the equivalent of f5.6 reaching the AF sensor.

So yeah, the kenko rings will AF, but you’ll probably want to use it with your Sigma and the 35.

I own both the D80 and D90 and love both to death. They are great cameras and are compatible with every nikkor lens I’ve touched including really old ones from the 1970’s with no AF, most nikkor lenses made for film cameras, the pro full frame lenses in which I use many, and all and every nikon Dx lens that ever existed…

As to a comparison. The D90 takes larger images and preforms much better at ISO’s above 500 (like 1600 etc) whereas I won’t even use my D80 over ISO 500. The D90 also has Live view and an info button which are both very useful. Also there are more options and a much more advanced tool for setting stuff like the WB. I almost forgot but the D90 has HD video…

I still kinda like the vivid optimization on the D80 better.

They are both great cameras but the D90 is the clear winner.

I need help making the decision… I really, really like the d90, especially for the price. Basically, my ONLY concern is how limited I will be by my current lens (28-80) vs the kit (18-55 on the d5000). Any suggestions are welcome.

Added info: I shoot mostly outside. I shoot landscapes, abandoned buildings/structures, but also use the camera as a snapshot camera on family vacations, etc. As said before, if the loss of true wide angle is not a huge deal, I will go with the d90 and maybe get another lens later.

1: I use an old 28-80 (albeit the 3.3-5.6G version) as the standard lens on my D90…it works quite well. Since i take most of my landscape shots in vertical orientation i haven’t really missed the 18mm of the standard kit lens yet; probably would do so if i’d use horizontal orientation though.

I’m not entirely sure about the 28-80/3.5-5.6D, but the 3.3-5.6G version focuses even on very close motives, i can almost use it as a macro.

2: Depends…the G version of the 28-80 is, just like the 18-55, quite a sharp lens. I’ve directly compared it to the 50mm/1.8D and it does quite well. The bokeh is poor though.

3: Not that much on a short lens, albeit it would be helpful in low light. The longer the lens, the more useful VR becomes. That’s because the degree of movement that is necessary to get a blurry shot at 18mm is way more than the degree of movement that is needed to blur a shot at 200mm – there is a physical limitation to how much movement the VR can compensate.

4: Depends on what you want to shoot with it. Wildlife? Forget about it. Architectural details? Quite possible. I guess it will be harder to focus manually than other lenses because you’ll want to hold a camera with such a relatively heavy lens with both hands most of the time, instead of using one hand for focusing. The focusing itself should be rather easy though.
