I’m planning on buy a nikon d90 slr camera and 18-200mm lens from J&R store but am debating where to buy the Repair Master accidental coverage for both the products. Is it worth it?? The camera is $999.99 and the lens is $650.
definitely buy the insurance.
I am a huge Nikon fan, but the D90 was just prematurely forced onto the market, and will most likely have problems later on down the road.
Those problems should be covered by Nikons warranty that they give you (like a year or something) but they can also say that whatever goes wrong is "User Error".
Then you are out the money and the camera.
I think %100 on the D90
It may be expensive, but it would really suck for something to go wrong, or to have an accident with it.
For the 18-200, the warranty is not so necessary.
It is a good lens that has been around for a while now.
I do reccomend, however, that you get a uv filter to protect the front element from scratches. also, keep the cap on when not in use.
those front pieces of glass get scratched quite easily.
People always question how tough the more basic level DSLRs are and treat them like delicate objects. But are they really tough enough to take the abuse that one might give it during daily life? Does a magnesium alloy body mean everything when it comes to “tough bodies”? We take these two DSLRs and put them through some extreme tests that you might possibly be able to relate to during your daily lives. Watch the video to see if they survive these rigorous tests.
*As it turned out, the budget of this video was limited, so a 400D was used and Kai’s own Nikon D70.

Looking at buying some lenses for my Nikon D90.
I don’t have a huge amount of experience with choosing lenses, however I’m definitely not a beginner.
I’ll be doing mostly photos of people and potraits, plus some object photography, low-light photos and a macro.
What are some of the best & most suitable lenses for any of these kinds? Thanks in advance.
I think really one lens that I have that I would recommend for almost all of these is the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 ATX. 1:1 macro that is intensely clear, perfect length for portraits, just a terrific all around prime lens. It’s not as effective in low light as the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 so that might be a good second lens. If it were me, I’d get the Tokina and pick something else of the zoom variety, maybe the sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 or something of that nature rather than 2 primes.
I like Picture Takers recommendation too with the 60mm Nikon micro. Probably would be my 3rd choice of primes after the 85mm and the 100mm. I guess you kind of have to weigh out what the priority is. If low light is first, then the 85mm f/1.4. The 60mm and 100mm are both macro lenses, both f/2.8, then you really have to look at what your ideal focal length is and maybe any other features. I love the Tokina’s clutch between manual focus and AF plus it also has a limiter on it as well. I don’t have the Nikon 60mm but it was on my list of "to get’s" before I stumbled across the Tokina which based on how great of a lens it is, I almost feel guilty that I paid so little for it. Even at retail price, its really worth it.

I’m planning on buying a Nikon D90 but I’m really confused and need help! My first question is: What are the best lens for a D90? I’ll be shooting mostly landscape and portraits. And second questions is: Should I invest more on the camera body or on the lens? Some people told me buy a more inexpensive camera and invest the money on the lens. What is your overall opinion?? What can $1300,00 get me ?
I bought the D90 with the kit Nikkor zoom. It is OK but I miss the fixed faster lenses I use on my film cameras. I plan on adding the AF 105mm
f2.0 for it instead of another zoom lens.
I will also be looking at the 60mm macro and a 20mm all in AF Nikkors
I find that the zoom is not what this old school can use with ease as the loss of light transmission is just to much for me.
So to answer your question. Get the kit, add the fixed lens you "need"
most soon. The 105mm OR a fixed wide like the 20mm. If you plan on doing very close up work (macro) add the 60 as well when you can.
