i’m new to this whole thing-
i was shopping around and i can get
a nikon d90 body for $750
OR
a nikon d60 with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR for $650
(this is at a store, not online)
what would be a better deal?
and if i bought the nikon d90, how much would i have to pay to get just a standard lens for it?
I would get the D90 and save for a better lens. If you like video the D90 films in HD! That is a sweet perk to have. That same lens you have listed will fit on the D90. If budget is your concern the D60 is a mighty capable camera. If you need to read some great reviews check them out here…

Adorama has it for 1,199 with a kit lens
I want the D90 so bad. We have a d40x and it’s a great camera but the D90? Wow…
I’ll be straight, becose any photographer or amatuer who likes photography will know what I’m saying. The Nikon D90 comes with the standard AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens and costs around 1200 $ and the CANON 450D comes with the together with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS and costs around 950 $ where I live now. Should I go for the 450D with one extra lens or should I go for the "movie maker" D90? Or should I go for the new Canon 500D, also a "movie maker" but with only one lens (18-55 IS)? Please help me before I spend my money on something else and end up with neither of them!
Youre answers will be very much apreciated!
Thank you!
The D90 is a better camera than either of the Canon models. It is better built and in a higher class. The 450D is more like the D60.
For a beginner I would recommend you go with a cheaper camera and an extra lens. You will soon realize that you want another lens regardless of the camera you choose. Image quality has much more to do with the lens you use than the camera you use anyway.
If you really want the video feature which from my understanding isn’t great look at the Canon 500D and the Nikon D5000. These cameras are in the same class.
