I am using the canon 40d right now with the kit lens. But recently my friend gave me a bunch of Nikon lenses.
AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
AF Zoom-NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D IF-ED
AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED
AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Should I sell my Canon 40d with kit lens only and get a Nikon body?
If so, which one should I get from the Nikon? Should I get the Nikon d90 or the Nikon d300?
Thanks
If you sufficient budget than go to D300, It is best deal and great Camera.
I'm about to buy the D90 but i see a package deal with what i think is a better lens, Help me decide please.
Basically I was going to get the noraml kit with nikkor lens.
Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens

but then i saw this package deal…
Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera Body + Nikon 18-200mm VR Lens + 16GB Memory Card + Nikon EN-EL3e Battery + Case + Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit

Difference is about 500, is it worth it?
Does this lens do everything the other 1 would and more?
seems to me it does but this is my forst serious camera & i got lots to learn so I need to know for sure.
No matter what I'm going to stick with just 1 lens for a while, at least a year.
Also i wanted a 16GB Memory Card anyway & dont think the other package comes with that. Figured by the time I added the little xtras id be halfway between the price diference anyway, so thinking maybe i should just get the better package.
Your thoughts please?
What else will I need that is not included depending on which choice i go with?
Battery Charger? anything?
Thanks!
Thanks for better deal but the Amazon kit includes all this…

I recommend the 18-200mm lens; it's worth the extra money and you'll get the extra zoom you need.
But you'll find a better deal here

I got my D80 from there and was extremely satisfied with the packaging and shipping speed.
In your eyes, what is the best all purpose DX format Nikon lens?
I'm purchasing a D90 soon (not for its video capabilities, but because of how it shares the same sensor as the D3X and D300) and was considering the 18-200mm VRII, but I want to see what the community thinks about it.
The 18-200 mm VR is an excellent lens as it is, added to the video function of the D90, you end up with a fine 11x cine lens.
I will tell you more next week. I am testing the D90 and I already own the 18-200 mm VR lens
1st slr user buying the Nikon D90 what would be betterNikon 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom Lens or Nikon 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 ED D Lens also does the higher the number 200,300 mean the farther the distance?
I was a new user when I bought my D90 a few months ago. It didn't take me long to learn that I didn't use the zoom anywhere near as much as I thought I would. I often shoot in the 20mm-50mm range. I have 2 lenses to recommend to you. One is the "kit" lens which you can buy as part of a package with the camera. It is 18-105mm. Lets you shoot fairly wide angle but also gives you some reach.
If you need more reach, a very popular lens is the 18-200mm VR. It gives you both wide and long shots. It is fairly highly rated by it's users because of it's versatility.
Start saving your pennies. The camera is just the start. You will end up wanting more lenses and expensive flashes. Expensive but a fun hobby.
Have fun!
For general purpose use, but particularly for indoor portrait photography.
The Nikon is a bundled kit lens, the Canon kit lens was not recommended by reviewers due to producing "soft" images. I picked the 70-200 based on good reviews and price. I'm open to any brand/body/lens, but I'd like to stay under $1700 total. I'd like to be able to to do portraits (full body and close up) of babies and children, indoors.
The Nikon D90 is an excellent, sub-$1,000 camera. while the 18-105 mm VR lens will give you a medium wide angle to telephoto range, you may want to look at the 18-200 mm VR as the base lens for that camera.
The 50D with a 70-200 mm f/4 is a good combination, but what will you use for a lens from 18-70 mm, the wide angle (necessary to shoot groups and landscapes) to medium telephoto range?
You know of course that what Nikon calls its ED lenses are similar glass to the Canon 'L' lenses and the Nikon's AF-S lenses are what Canon calls USM lenses.
When shooting indoor portraits, the 18-200 mm will give you the most latitude from full body to tight head shots …. using the Canon 70-200 mm, you will have to stand back about 20 feet to get a full body shot
I have a Nikon d90 with the standard Nikon DX 18-105 mm G lens and sometimes I can't take pictures in auto mode. It flashes F– what is wrong?
Look towards the rear of your manual for the troubleshooting section. There is a table of error messages. Blinking F– is a lens problem. Be sure your lens is properly mounted. See the manual for lens attachment and removal.
I just purchased my first dslr camera the Nikon D90…. I love it!!! I am just learning how to use it. I was wondering if you can turn off the shutter sound when taking a picture. I can on my little point and shoot to make it a quiet camera.
No, the shutter sound is a combination of the mechanical shutter activating and the mirror being flipped up. Your digital point and shoot doesn’t have to do this as it probably has an electronic shutter.
Just bought a Nikon D90 and wanted to test out the video in HD. Lens used nikkor 50mm f1.8

Which package would be better?
One has 2 lenses. The first lens is a Nikkor 18-55 VR lens, the second is a 55-200vr lens.
The second package just has a Nikkor AFS 18-105mm lens vr zoom, but it also has a free case and a tripod.
They are both around the same price. Which one do you suggest?
Hel.lo,
I would go with the first kit since the 2 lenses will cover a wide variety of shooting situations. You can always buy a case that suits your needs, they start at 20 dollars and go up from there. Also, how much will you use a tripod? The pods that come with these kits usually are not that great and tend to be bulky. Again, you can go to the store and buy a comparable tripod for 20-50 dollars.
